American Family Care Celebrates 32 Year Anniversary While Expanding National Footprint

(June 14, 2014) - American Family Care (AFC), one of our nation's largest and most established operators of urgent care and accessible primary care, marks a major milestone this month, celebrating 32 years of patient-first, quality health care while expanding its footprint across the U.S. With the recent addition of two new clinics in central Alabama, AFC marks a golden milestone, as well - 50 clinics. As part of the 32nd anniversary celebration, AFC will honor its employees for their hard work with a celebratory lunch, gift cards, T-shirts and scrubs, and of course, birthday cake. "The success of this company is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of our employees," said founder D. Bruce Irwin, M.D. "As we look toward the future of our brand, we know our great people built this company by working tirelessly to bring kind, compassionate healthcare to the nation." Founded by Irwin in Hoover, Ala., in 1982, AFC clinics offer primary, urgent and emergency care and occupational medicine. Over the past 32 years, the company has expanded its footprint from a handful of clinics in Alabama to 50 clinics in several states, including Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida. In 2013, AFC acquired Doctors Express, the largest national urgent care franchise creating AFC/Doctors Express brands across the country. By the end of this year, AFC/DRX will operate more than 160 facilities in 26 states and will serve more than 1 million patients. As the nation's health care model evolves, AFC has kept pace, acquiring companies, opening new clinics and medical businesses - all to stake a claim in the new frontier of American healthcare. "This company steadily marches forward and continues to grow each year," Irwin said. "As the face of health care changes across the nation, more and more patients are looking to urgent care and our services to meet their medical needs. With the expansion of this company, we're growing to meet those demands and offer the best health care possible in a kind and caring environment to all our current and future patients." American Family Care Expansion Highlights: 2013 and 2014 are significant years in AFC's long history, marking a period of expansion and growth for the company. 2013 -AFC acquired Doctors Express, the largest national urgent care franchise, creating AFC/Doctors Express brands across the country. The acquisition makes American Family Care our nation's second largest privately owned urgent care operator. 2014 - AFC acquired Trinity Medical Contractors, an Alabama-based health care staffing firm, to create American Healthcare Resources. 2014 - AFC has created a new clinic system with an Alabama hospital affiliation. AFC will welcome primary care patients to its eight newly branded facilities in July. The partnership will result in enhanced access to primary care services in a seven-county region and will serve approximately 470,000 people living in the surrounding communities. 2014 - Certified doctors at all AFC and AFC/DRX locations earn certification to perform professional driver physicals, as required by the Department of Transportation. The growth continues. This year alone, AFC clinics are scheduled to open in Calera, Ala., and Roswell, Ga., in late July. By the end of 2014, clinics will open in Athens, Ala., Panama City Beach, Fla., Gadsden, Ala., Cedar Bluff, Tenn., and Enterprise, Ala. By the end of this year, AFC/DRX will operate more than 160 facilities in 26 states and will serve more than 1 million patients. All AFC clinics are designed, equipped, and staffed to provide accessible primary care, urgent care, minor emergency treatment and occupational medicine. They use a high-tech, high touch approach, with digital x-rays, on-site lab testing, state of the art diagnostics, and electronic medical records. The clinics are staffed by kind, caring and compassionate health care professionals. The clinics are open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and no appointments are necessary.
